Zambia Off-the-Beaten-Track

Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp

Located in the far south of the largely undeveloped and pristine Kafue National Park, this intimate 12-bed lodge is in the very heart of the African bush

Fire Pit in front of the lodge

Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is a must for those intrepid travellers wishing to experience life off the beaten track. Being the most southerly of the parks lodges and the closest in proximity to Livingstone and the Victoria Falls, Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is the ideal first (or last!) stop on your Zambian safari adventure. The park entrance is a comfortable 3 hour drive from Livingstone and for those who wish to fly, Ngoma air-strip is only a one hour charter flight away from either Livingstone or Lusaka.

Accommodating on 12 guests at a time, Nanzhila Plains offers a tranquil, intimate encounter with Zambia’s finest wildlife. The spacious main lodge is a raised, grass-thatched structure (called an insaka) with a beautiful teak deck. Elevated above the Nangandwe pool, it comprises a lounge and dining area, bar and verandah. An adjoining communal open-air fireplace is a great gathering place in the evening, where stories are exchanged under the stars.

Enjoy game-viewing and bird-watching from the cool verandah, shaded by a huge jackalberry tree (also known as the African Ebony), which provides an unhindered view of the dambo(vlei or wetlands).

The three well-appointed, unobtrusive chalets accommodate six guests (two to a chalet) and are situated along the tree line, giving guests an unobstructed view of the pool.  Here, peace and tranquility reign. To make that bush experience all the more authentic, chalets are lit with paraffin lamps and hot water comes from donkey boilers. The en suite facilities include a hot and cold shower, toilet and double basins. The cottages are spacious and private with large, comfortable beds protected by mosquito nets.

The three meru-style safari tents can accommodate up to six people. They have separate, en suite toilet, double basins and hot-and-cold shower areas for greater privacy and their walk-in structures provide fantastic views of the bush and the pool. They are lit by paraffin lamps and hot water is provided by donkey boilers. The comfortable beds are protected by mosquito nets.

Within the Park take advantage of the varied activities on offer, be it wildlife viewing by day or night, by custom built safari vehicle, on foot or simply relaxing and enjoying the lodge facilities, the park will reveal its extraordinary diversity of landscape and their many inhabitants.
